In Saudi Arabia, education spending recorded the largest increase, rising by 142.8% during the week of September 27\u2013October 3, 2026, compared with the previous week, September 20\u201326. Spending on education reached 212.57 million Saudi riyals, while the number of education-related transactions increased by 69.1%. These figures were published by the Saudi Central Bank<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Against the backdrop of the sharp increase in education spending, total consumer spending rose by 23.4% to 16.51 billion Saudi riyals (US$4.4 billion).<\/p>\n

Spending on food and beverages increased by 41% to 2.98 billion Saudi riyals. The growth rate in this category was approximately 3.5 times lower than that of education spending.<\/p>\n

Spending at restaurants and caf\u00e9s rose by 7.7% to 1.89 billion riyals. In this category, the growth rate was approximately 18.5 times lower than that of education spending.<\/p>\n

Spending on clothing and accessories increased by 10.6% to 1.31 billion Saudi riyals.<\/p>\n

Economist Talat Hafiz told Arab News that the increase in education spending was largely seasonal. Contributing factors included the start of the new academic year and the later start of the school year at some educational institutions, particularly international and foreign schools, compared with the country’s general school calendar.<\/p>\n

According to the economist, the increase was also driven by tuition payments at schools and universities, as well as purchases of educational supplies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
