On October 19, Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan (ASPU), introduced Araksya Svajyan, the university’s newly appointed acting rector, at an extraordinary meeting of its Academic Council. Svajyan was nominated for the position following a vote at an extraordinary meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees.
According to an official announcement by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Andreasyan emphasized that the ministry and the university would continue working together, with a focus on improving teacher education and advancing reforms in the field. The minister noted that Svajyan has extensive experience in teaching and research at the Armenian State Pedagogical University and has conducted research in the field of preschool education. Andreasyan added that, during her years at the ministry, Svajyan had maintained close ties with the university by teaching there and serving as a member of its Board of Trustees.
Svajyan, a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor, identified three main priorities for her upcoming work as acting rector: improving the quality of higher education, continuing initiatives in general and preschool education, and developing research activities.
“The university has a substantial amount of work to do in these areas. I am confident that a challenging but productive journey lies ahead,” Svajyan said, according to the ministry’s announcement.
